Ground-truth conditions from our guides on the mountain — not satellite data. Updated every Monday by our lead guides in Skardu, Hushe, and Gilgit.

2026 Season Opening — May Update

K2 Base Camp and Fairy Meadows fully open. Gondogoro La pass opening June 8. Snow Lake traverse not recommended until June 15. Overall season outlook: excellent — below-average snowpack makes routes safer than usual.

K2 Base Camp & Concordia Trek

❄️ Snow Cover

Baltoro Glacier fully open. Some snow on lateral moraine above Urdukas — crampons not required. Concordia snowpack normal for late May.

🥾 Trail

Excellent from Askole to Paiyu. Glacier moraine moderate — standard difficulty. No unusual rockfall reported.

🌊 River Crossings

Braldu River crossings normal. Suspension bridges at Jhola and Korophon intact and safe.

⛺ Campsites

All established campsites operational: Jhola, Paiyu, Urdukas, Goro II, Concordia, K2 BC.

☁️ Weather Outlook

Settled weather expected through June 10. Jet stream high — good summit window potential early July.

📄 Permits

CKNP permits processing normally. 7–10 day turnaround from submission. LO availability good.

Early season — snowpack good. June departures recommended for best conditions. K2 BC fully accessible.

Gondogoro La Trek

❄️ Snow Cover

Gondogoro La pass (5,585m) has adequate snow cover for fixed ropes. Northeast face conditions good — crampons mandatory.

🥾 Trail

Hushe Valley approach excellent. Gondogoro glacier approach moderate. Fixed ropes being installed by our team May 26.

🌊 River Crossings

Hushe nullah crossings normal. No unusual flooding.

⛺ Campsites

All Gondogoro camps established. Camp at Ali Camp (4,750m) operational.

☁️ Weather Outlook

Settled through June 5. Pass crossing window: June 10–August 15.

📄 Permits

Permits processing normally. Both Hushe zone and Baltoro zone permits required.

Technical route — crampons and ice axe mandatory. First crossing of season planned June 8.

Fairy Meadows Trek

❄️ Snow Cover

Fairy Meadows fully snow-free. Green meadows with early wildflowers. Nanga Parbat north face clearly visible.

🥾 Trail

Raikot Bridge to Tattoo: excellent jeep track. Tattoo to Fairy Meadows: good forest trail, well-maintained.

🌊 River Crossings

No significant crossings. Raikot Nullah bridge intact.

⛺ Campsites

All guesthouses and camps fully operational. Peak season underway.

☁️ Weather Outlook

Excellent May–June conditions. Best wildflower period: mid-June to mid-July.

📄 Permits

Nanga Parbat NP entry fee collected at Raikot Bridge. No advance permit required.

Best time of year — go now. Meadows stunning. Nanga Parbat clearly visible from camp.

Snow Lake & Biafo-Hispar Traverse

Snow Lake snowpack heavy — above average for late May. Hispar La approach crevassed. Not recommended until June 15.

🥾 Trail

Hispar approach good. Biafo Glacier surface rough with fresh crevassing — careful navigation needed.

🌊 River Crossings

Hispar nullah running high — spring melt. Use established crossings only.

⛺ Campsites

All camps established but snow-covered. Bring extra fuel.

☁️ Weather Outlook

Normal. Season opens properly mid-June.

📄 Permits

CKNP permit required. 10–14 day processing time.

Early season — conditions improve significantly after June 15. July–August optimal window.
