Overview
Deosai, meaning "Land of Giants" in Balti, is the world's second highest plateau after Tibet's Tibetan Plateau, averaging 4,114m above sea level. Accessible only from June to September (buried under deep snow the rest of the year), the plateau transforms each July into a vast carpet of wildflowers in every colour imaginable. This extraordinary national park protects the endangered Himalayan Brown Bear (50+ individuals), Snow Leopard, Himalayan Ibex, Tibetan Wolf, and over 250 bird species. The centrepiece, Sheosar Lake (4,142m), offers mirror-perfect reflections of the surrounding snow-dusted peaks at dawn.
