Pakistan's heartland holds some of the most magnificent monuments in all of Asia. Lahore — the "Heart of Pakistan" — was a jewel of the Mughal Empire and preserves three UNESCO World Heritage Sites within one city. The Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila) dazzles with its Sheesh Mahal (Palace of Mirrors) and Mughal frescoes. The Badshahi Mosque (1673) remains one of the world's largest and most beautiful mosques. Taxila, just outside Islamabad, is Pakistan's most important archaeological site — a UNESCO WHS covering 3,000 years of Buddhist, Greek, and Parthian civilization along the ancient Silk Road.
Lahore Fort (Shahi Qila) — Mughal imperial complex with Sheesh Mahal
Badshahi Mosque — one of the world's largest mosques (1673)

When should I avoid Lahore?
May–August can be intensely hot (38–45°C). The ideal visiting period is October–March, when temperatures are comfortable (15–25°C) and smog from crop burning (October–November) has settled.
Is photography permitted at all sites?
Photography is permitted at most sites. The Badshahi Mosque requires a photography permit (PKR 300). Some inner chambers of the Fort require a video camera fee.
