Overview
Khunjerab Pass at 4,693m is the highest paved international border crossing in the world — the point where Pakistan meets China on the legendary Karakoram Highway. Khunjerab National Park surrounding the pass is one of Pakistan's most important wildlife reserves, home to the endangered Marco Polo sheep, snow leopards, ibex, wolves, and brown bears. The trek explores the high valleys and glacial terrain around the pass — areas that few tourists walk even when thousands drive through on the KKH. Trek through the vast high-altitude plateau (the word "Khunjerab" means blood valley in the local Wakhi language, after the redness of the minerals), walk along glacial streams, and spot Marco Polo sheep grazing on the plateau. The views from the pass into China and back down the KKH valley into Pakistan are extraordinary.

Pakistani citizens and tourists with valid China visas can cross at Khunjerab. However, the crossing is seasonal (May–October) and requires pre-arranged Chinese permits. We can organize this as an extension of the trek on request.
What are our chances of seeing Marco Polo sheep?
Very high — groups of 20–50 Marco Polo sheep are commonly seen grazing on the plateau, especially in the morning. Snow leopard sightings are rare but possible during dawn/dusk walks in the valley.
