Growing to 50kg+ in the right habitat and fighting like a freight train on light tackle, it is the premier freshwater game fish of the subcontinent. The Neelum River in Azad Kashmir, fed by Himalayan glaciers and flowing through one of Pakistan's most beautiful valleys, holds excellent Mahseer populations alongside rainbow and brown trout. The Neelum Valley itself is extraordinary — lush green forests unlike anything in the northern areas, traditional Kashmiri wooden architecture, and a frontier atmosphere from the proximity to the Line of Control.
