How long does the Pakistan e-Visa take to process?
The Pakistan tourist e-Visa typically processes within 24–72 hours online. Apply at least 1 week before travel. Your passport must be valid for 6+ months beyond your travel dates.
Do I need a separate permit for Gilgit-Baltistan?
Yes — foreign nationals need a free No Objection Certificate (NOC) to enter Gilgit-Baltistan for trekking. Wonderland Treks arranges this for all clients as part of our service. It takes 2–3 working days.
Is Pakistan safe for tourists in 2026?
Gilgit-Baltistan (Hunza, Skardu, K2 region) has an excellent safety record and is visited by thousands of international tourists annually. The UK FCDO, US State Department, and other governments classify GB as lower risk than other parts of Pakistan. We monitor conditions continuously.

How difficult is the K2 Base Camp Trek?
The K2 Base Camp Trek is rated Strenuous. It requires 7–9 hours of walking per day for 18 days on rough glacier terrain up to 5,150m. No technical climbing skills or equipment required — it is a trekking route, not a climbing route. Prior high-altitude experience is helpful but not mandatory.
What is the best time for K2 Base Camp Trek?
June–August is the primary season for the K2 Base Camp Trek. July and August offer the most stable weather windows on the Baltoro Glacier. Late June and early September are also possible but less predictable. The route is closed October–May due to snow and dangerous conditions.
How long is the K2 Base Camp Trek?
The K2 Base Camp and Concordia Trek is 18 days and approximately 160km round trip from Askole Village. It crosses the Baltoro Glacier to Concordia (4,650m) and K2 Base Camp (5,150m).
Is Gondogoro La harder than K2 Base Camp?
Yes. Gondogoro La (5,585m) requires crampons, ice axes, and experience on fixed ropes on 50-degree snow slopes. K2 Base Camp (5,150m) is non-technical trekking. Gondogoro La is 22 days vs 18 days for K2 Base Camp, and costs from $2,143 per person vs $1,714.
Hunza Valley
When is the best time to visit Hunza Valley?
October is the best month for Hunza — autumn foliage turns the apricot orchards gold and amber, skies are crystal clear, and the Karakoram peaks are sharp against the blue sky. Spring (April–May) has wildflowers and apricot blossom. Summer (June–August) is peak season with warm weather.
How do I get to Hunza Valley?
From Islamabad: fly to Gilgit (45 min, PIA/AirBlue, subject to weather, ~$90 each way) then drive 2 hours to Hunza. Or drive the Karakoram Highway (KKH) from Islamabad — approximately 13–14 hours, one of the world's greatest road journeys.
How many days do I need in Hunza Valley?
Minimum 3 days to see Baltit Fort, Altit Fort, Eagle's Nest viewpoint, and the valley. Ideal is 5–7 days to add Attabad Lake, Passu Cones, and a day trip to Gulmit or Naltar. For the autumn photography season, 7–10 days is recommended.
What is Hunza Valley famous for?
Hunza Valley is famous for: Baltit Fort (700-year-old royal fort), the extraordinary longevity of its people, apricot orchards and dried fruit, turquoise Attabad Lake, the Passu Cones rock formations, views of Rakaposhi (7,788m), and as the setting for James Hilton's Shangri-La.

What is included in Wonderland Treks package prices?
All our trek packages include: DTS-licensed guide, cook, kitchen staff, porters (at DTS union rates), full camping equipment (tents, kitchen, dining, toilet tent), all meals (3/day + tea), all trekking permits, Islamabad hotel and Skardu hotel nights, all transport, first aid kit, satellite phone, and emergency communication.
Is travel insurance compulsory?
Yes — comprehensive travel insurance including helicopter evacuation cover (minimum $500,000) is mandatory for all trekking above 4,000m. Helicopter evacuations from the Baltoro cost $15,000–$80,000. We recommend Campbell Irvine, Battleface, or World Nomads.
What currency should I bring to Pakistan?
US Dollars are the most useful foreign currency and widely exchangeable. Pakistani Rupees (PKR) are needed for daily expenses. Exchange at banks or moneychangers in Islamabad, Gilgit, or Skardu. ATMs are available in major cities but unreliable in remote areas — bring cash.

How much does a K2 expedition cost?
Wonderland Treks & Tours packages the K2 Summit Expedition (60 days) at $35,000 per person. This includes full base camp support, high-altitude guide to Camp 3, all meals, satellite communication, Islamabad and Skardu hotels, and all logistics. The government permit is a separate cost ($12,000+ from Government of Pakistan).
What experience do I need to climb K2?
K2 requires: prior 8,000m summit experience (or at minimum strong 7,500m+ record), extensive Karakoram experience, technical ice and mixed climbing skills, and comprehensive high-altitude evacuation insurance. K2 has a significantly higher fatality rate than Everest and is only for highly experienced mountaineers.
What is the easiest expedition in Pakistan for beginners?
Spantik / Golden Peak (7,027m) at $3,500 per person over 28 days is considered one of the more accessible 7,000m peaks in Pakistan. Chogolisa (7,665m) at $11,000 over 40 days is another good option. Both require prior 6,500m+ summit experience. Our Alpine Mountaineering Skills Course is the recommended first step.

Is Pakistan safe for tourists in 2026?
Gilgit-Baltistan — the region covering Hunza, Skardu, and the K2 trek area — is considered safe for tourists and receives thousands of international visitors annually. The UK FCDO, US State Department, German Auswärtiges Amt, and Australian DFAT classify Gilgit-Baltistan as significantly lower risk than other parts of Pakistan. BBC, CNN, and Condé Nast have named it a top global destination. Wonderland Treks monitors all conditions continuously.
Do I need travel insurance for Pakistan trekking?
Yes — comprehensive travel insurance including helicopter evacuation cover (minimum $500,000 medical evacuation limit) is mandatory for all trekking above 4,000m. Helicopter evacuations from Baltoro Glacier cost $15,000–$80,000. Wonderland will not allow any client above 4,000m without proof of adequate insurance. Recommended insurers: Campbell Irvine, Battleface, World Nomads.
What altitude sickness risks should I be aware of?
Altitude sickness (AMS — Acute Mountain Sickness) is possible above 2,500m and serious above 4,000m. Symptoms: headache, nausea, fatigue, dizziness. Our guides carry Diamox (acetazolamide) and emergency oxygen. All guides are trained in altitude medicine and high-altitude rescue. We acclimatise clients properly — we do not rush itineraries.
What vaccinations do I need for Pakistan?
Recommended (not mandatory): Typhoid, Hepatitis A and B. Standard travel vaccines: Tetanus/Diphtheria, MMR. Malaria prophylaxis is not generally required for Gilgit-Baltistan (too high altitude). Rabies is recommended for long rural trips. Consult your GP or a travel clinic 6–8 weeks before departure. No vaccinations are mandatory for Pakistan entry.
Can solo female travellers visit Pakistan safely?
Yes — solo female travel is common in Gilgit-Baltistan and northern Pakistan. The region has a strong culture of hospitality and respect for international visitors. Many of Wonderland's clients are solo women from the UK, USA, Europe, Australia, and Canada. We recommend modest dress (shoulders and knees covered), which is standard practice locally. What is Gilgit-Baltistan?
Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) is a semi-autonomous territory in the extreme north of Pakistan, bordering China (Xinjiang), Afghanistan (Wakhan Corridor), and the disputed territory of Kashmir. It contains five of the world's fourteen 8,000m peaks (K2, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I & II, Broad Peak) and three of the world's greatest glaciers. Its capital is Gilgit. Key areas for tourism: Hunza Valley, Skardu, Ghanche, Ghizer.
What can you see from Concordia on the K2 trek?
Concordia (4,650m) is called the "Throne Room of the Mountain Gods." From this point you can simultaneously see K2 (8,611m), Broad Peak (8,047m), Gasherbrum I (8,080m), Gasherbrum II (8,034m), Chogolisa (7,665m), and Masherbrum (7,821m). It is widely regarded as the greatest mountain panorama on Earth.
How long is the Baltoro Glacier?
The Baltoro Glacier is approximately 62km long — one of the world's longest glaciers outside the polar regions. The K2 Base Camp trek follows it for about 4 days from Paiju to Concordia.
What is Hunza Valley famous for?
Hunza Valley (2,400m, Gilgit-Baltistan) is famous for: Baltit Fort (700-year-old royal residence, UNESCO tentative list), Attabad Lake (brilliant turquoise glacial lake formed in 2010), views of Rakaposhi (7,788m) and Ultar Sar (7,388m), Passu Cones (dramatic rock spires), Eagle's Nest viewpoint, extraordinary longevity of its inhabitants, and as the inspiration for James Hilton's novel "Lost Horizon" (Shangri-La).
What is the Karakoram Highway?
The Karakoram Highway (KKH) is a 1,300km road connecting Islamabad, Pakistan to Kashgar, China via the Khunjerab Pass (4,693m). Built jointly by Pakistan and China between 1959 and 1979, it is known as the "8th Wonder of the World." The Pakistan section runs through Islamabad, Abbottabad, Besham, Chilas, Gilgit, Hunza, and Sost to Khunjerab. It is one of the world's great road journeys and forms the backbone of Wonderland's ground transport.
What is the altitude of K2 Base Camp?
K2 Base Camp on the Pakistani (south) side sits at 5,150m (16,900ft), at the foot of the Baltoro Glacier. It takes 11–12 walking days from Askole (3,015m) to reach. Concordia, the nearby viewpoint showing six 8,000m peaks simultaneously, is at 4,650m.
Packing & Preparation
What shoes do I need for the K2 Base Camp Trek?
You need waterproof, broken-in hiking boots with ankle support. No technical mountaineering boots are required — the route is non-technical trekking on rocky and moraine terrain. We recommend: Salomon X Ultra 4 GTX, Lowa Renegade GTX, or equivalent mid-cut waterproof boots. Bring two pairs of hiking socks and sandals for camp. Gaiters are useful on glacier sections.
What clothing is essential for Pakistan trekking?
Layering system: moisture-wicking base layers, mid-layer fleece or down jacket, waterproof shell jacket and trousers. Sun hat, warm hat, buff/neck gaiter, gloves (liner + heavy). Sunglasses (UV400 or better — glacier glare is intense). At camp: a good down jacket (rated to -10°C or colder). Sleeping bag: rated to -10°C for Baltoro Glacier. What currency should I bring to Pakistan?
