Region
For experienced skiers and ski mountaineers, the Karakoram offers some of the finest and most inaccessible backcountry terrain anywhere on Earth. The glaciated high valleys around Hunza, the Shimshal plateau, and the approaches to 6,000m-class peaks receive abundant snowfall and have never been commercially developed. This expedition-style ski touring adventure uses established high camps, helicopter access to the upper glacier zones (where available), and guided descents of untracked couloirs and glacier faces between 3,500β5,500m. The experience is for expert freeskiers and ski mountaineers only β technical terrain, crevasse awareness, and high-altitude experience are required. The scenery β K2, Rakaposhi, Batura, and the great Karakoram icefields β is incomparable.
