Kunhar River
Region
The Kunhar River flowing through Kaghan Valley in KPK is Pakistan's most celebrated trout fishery — a fast-flowing mountain river of crystal clarity, cold temperatures, and healthy populations of wild brown trout and rainbow trout. The authorized angling reaches between Kaghan and Naran have been carefully managed and stocked, and the wild fish here — rising freely to dry flies in the gin-clear water — offer fly fishing comparable to the best mountain rivers in Scotland, New Zealand, or the Rockies. The surrounding Kaghan Valley adds exceptional scenery: the flower-carpeted Lalazar Plateau, Saif ul Maluk Lake reflecting Malika Parbat, and traditional Pashtun villages along the valley. This is Pakistan's best-kept fly fishing secret — accessible, affordable, and spectacular.

What flies work on the Kunhar River?
The Kunhar responds well to classic dry flies: Elk Hair Caddis, Adams, Royal Wulff sizes 12–16. Nymphs (Hare's Ear, Pheasant Tail) work during non-hatch periods. Local guide will advise on current hatches on arrival. Olive duns and sedges are particularly effective May–August.
Can complete beginners join?
Yes — our guide can teach basic casting and technique. We recommend a single half-day lesson on Day 1 before fishing the prime beats. Many of our clients have caught their first trout on the Kunhar.
