Overview
The Margalla Hills form the southern edge of the Himalayan range and provide a spectacular natural backdrop to Pakistan's capital, Islamabad. This underrated national park holds 15 marked trails through dense sub-tropical forests, across clear mountain streams, past cascading waterfalls, and up to ridges with extraordinary 360° views — Islamabad and Rawalpindi spreading below, and the higher Himalayas rising beyond. Trail 5 is the longest and most rewarding, climbing to Pir Sohawa (1,700m) through forest and meadows. Wildlife includes leopard (rarely spotted), barking deer, wild boar, jackals, and abundant birdlife. This is an ideal first hike for beginners based in or visiting Islamabad.

Morning drive to Trail 5 trailhead. Trek through the forest to Pir Sohawa (1,700m). Stunning views over Islamabad from the restaurant terrace at the top. Lunch with a view. Afternoon walk to Daman-e-Koh viewpoint. Return to hotel by evening.
